The Walking Dead: Fathers Day tribute to the icon Shane Walsh!

When most people think of the character Shane Walsh from The Walking Dead, they think of a truly misunderstood, strong, family man. Today on Fathers Day we pay respect to this iconic father!

Shane Walsh was first and foremost a great best friend to Rick on The Walking Dead. Being there for Rick before the apocalypse to vent about his current marital issues. Also in the early stages when people were turning, he was right beside Rick in the hospital until the very end. However, with the collapse of society, Shane started to thrive. A man truly ahead of his time.

When we first get a glimpse at what the apocalypse is like for the Atlanta group, we see Shane being a strong leader and toughing it out making those really hard decisions for the group. We see him taking control and even guiding Lori into things maybe Rick wasn’t so successful in, like arguing in front of Carl!

During this time, we see Shane taking up that father role that Rick, unfortunately, had to leave behind. Don’t forget Shane, Lori and Carl all thought Rick passed away at this point. We have some lovely moments between Lori and Shane during this time as well as some great moments between Shane and Carl. You can see he cares a great deal from them and would do anything to protect his new family.

Then the unthinkable happens! Rick is alive and ends up at the Atlanta camp! Shane regains his best friend, but at what cost? Shane later finds out that Lori is pregnant with his child! He is over the moon with excitement. However, for some reason, his pleas are just not heard and Lori wants to stay with Rick. This pesky husband issue is just a truly trying and difficult time for Shane understandably as he just wants to raise his growing family.

During this time of struggle for Shane, he still manages to do some very productive things! A beautiful new relationship with Andrea. Getting Carl the medicine he needed after he was shot, a trip he almost didn’t come back from. He got a sharp new haircut! He even helped Hershel renovate his barn. Such big accomplishments!

Unfortunately, Shane Walsh was murdered by his so-called best friend before he got a chance to see the birth of his beautiful baby girl Judith. However, I’m sure he would be proud of the confident young woman she is becoming. For now, it seems Shane isn’t a person talked about these days, but maybe in the future! He did make a surprise appearance in season 9 before Rick was whisked away, so maybe we will get some surprise RJ news? Only time will tell!
