Skidmark
One of the highlights of the episode was in fact the episode’s namesake: Skidmark the Cat. The ginger feline had already weaved and meowed his way into fans’ hearts, but in episode 504 he shows that having a cat around (albeit an obedient one) is a great thing in the apocalypse. What better creature to antagonize walkers than a precocious cat?
Daniel Salazar might have inherited the cat from the previous owner of the warehouse, but there’s no question that they’re a great team now. Skidmark brings out Salazar’s softer side despite his exasperated insistence that he’s going to leave the cat behind one of these days.
When fans first got a look at the season 5 trailer there were questions about having a cat in the apocalypse. Dog set the bar pretty high on The Walking Dead and so this orange tabby cat had a lot to prove. Needless to say, I think “Skidmark” proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that cats have a seat at the apocalypse table.
