Best New Duo

This week’s episode featured a dynamic new duo in Charlie and Salazar. As a man who lost his daughter, there’s no question that Salazar’s paternal instincts were in full swing, spiking his anger and resentment that Strand would send a child into such a dangerous situation.

However, as time wore on it became clear that Charlie isn’t a normal child. She’s a Child of the Apocalypse. She has been forced to do things in her short life that most adults wouldn’t be able to handle. Naturally, Salazar is impressed and he wants to help her.

Charlie and Salazar have a lot in common, and seeing them work together at the general store really reflects how much Charlie has been through. What’s more is that Salazar is smart enough to see the girl’s pain and understand how to redirect it into something positive.

When Salazar sent Charlie back to the warehouse, she can’t help but keep looking back at him in the rearview mirror. Later she makes the case for staging a rescue mission for him, because they have been looking for people to help and he needs help. This was a chance for Charlie to not only show that she is a valuable member of the team, but that she is also all-in on the group’s mission to help people.
