Fans won’t have to wait long to see what happens after the mid-season finale of Fear the Walking Dead because this season’s hiatus is shorter than ever!

There’s nothing worse than a thrilling cliffhanger for a mid-season finale and the long wait that typically comes until the second half of the season arrives. Fear the Walking Dead fans won’t have to wait long because the season 5 hiatus will be shorter than ever before!

The mid-season finale of Fear the Walking Dead is July 21, which also coincides with San Diego Comic-Con weekend. SDCC runs July 17-21 this year. Naturally fans will be eager to learn what’s coming in the second half of the season, and the good news is that they won’t have to wait very long at all: The mid-season premiere is mere weeks after the mid-season finale!

That’s right, the good folks at AMC told me that this year’s hiatus is only two weeks long, thanks in part to the late premiere this season, and so episode 509 will arrive on August 11. After the mid-season finale there will be two weeks off and then the show returns three Sundays after the mid-season finale on the 11th.

Given the revelations in episode 504 that the same helicopter people who took Rick are in Texas, there’s no question that this season’s story is building to something very exciting. We’re all for instant gratification, so not having to wait weeks or months for the show’s returns is a huge bonus.

Incidentally, if the pattern holds true then the Fear the Walking Dead season 5 finale will air September 29. It’s safe to assume that season 10 of The Walking Dead will arrive on October 6, which happens to coincide with New York Comic Con once again. In 2018 the show had its red carpet premiere for season 9 in New York and the cast made the rounds between NYCC and PaleyFest NY to promote the new season. It’s looking like the same thing could happen in 2019, though it hasn’t been confirmed as yet.
