Fear the Walking Dead 505 recap: The End of Everything
At the supply drop they find the helicopter landing pad and another climbing walker. Soldier moves to kill him when Al knocks her to the ground and grabs her weapon to preserve her own “operational security.” Al wants to know if she will help get her friends out of danger, knowing the answer already. Soldier says that leaving her behind would be a very bad idea, all things considered. Al is determined to figure out how to fly the helicopter, but Soldier says the reclamation team is on the way and things will be bad if they are discovered.
Soldier says the tape has to be destroyed and she says it must be destroyed. In fact, she’s willing to give Al her interview in exchange for the tape.
Later that night Soldier prefaces her story by stating that she’s not going to tell Al where her people are or who they are, but their operation is bigger than everything. It’s all about the future for them, and they are living in the past. Al wants to see it, but Soldier says she doesn’t want to go there. The problem with the tape is that the map she filmed will make their efforts vulnerable. If someone finds them then it puts everything in jeopardy.
If the tape isn’t destroyed, then all of their deaths will not amount to anything. She plays on Al’s determination to find the story and make them matter, and Soldier says that it’s all about making sure there are people around to enjoy the future. They only have the one night together, but Al agrees to give her the tape.
Soldier grabs a beer from the supply cases, and Al tells her that they have an aspiring brewer, too. They share the beer by the fireside, knowing that things are very dark ahead. Soldier says she wishes they’d met before everything happened, or after her people fix things. Al understands. Everything is ugly now, she says, but sitting there is nice.
