Fear The Walking Dead: Will Al have to break her promise?
By Sonya Iryna
On Fear The Walking Dead Al promised Isabelle she wouldn’t tell the others about CRM but will she be able to keep that promise?
On Fear The Walking Dead Isabelle was supposed to kill Al once she got the tape. She made it clear that protocol for the group was to kill any threat to operational security, and Al is definitely a threat to operational security. But Isabelle let Al live after getting Al to promise that she wouldn’t tell anyone and wouldn’t try to find out more about the helicopter group.
That promise may not be realistic though. The helicopter group is obviously active in that area and the chopper has now been seen by Morgan and Alicia. Right now the group has other things on their minds but it’s entirely possible that they will run into the helicopter group again and Al will be forced to tell the others what she learned from Isabelle.
Keeping secrets about something that could be a threat is not a good idea in the Fear The Walking Dead world. Does Al have a responsibility to the others in the group to disclose what she knows? Will she be forced to tell her secret at some point? Or should she act like she has no idea what the helicopter group is even if the group runs into trouble with them later on?
The ethics of lying and privacy in The Walking Dead world can be tricky. Our panelists had some thoughts about Al’s predicament and whether or not she should lie about the helicopter group:
Keeping CRM Secret
Al chose to keep what she learned about CRM a secret. Do you think she will be able to keep that secret from the rest of the group?
Sonya says:
"I’m torn on this one. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with keeping things private. But I also think that if this group could be a threat, and it sounds like they are a treat, that the others should know about them. If they run into this group later on and Al has to tell her secret then it will be really awkward and the others will wonder why she didn’t say anything earlier. She should probably tell them now because I do think she’s going to be forced to tell them at some point."
Sara says:
"I definitely don’t think so. Al is going to have to share what she found out with the group at some point because I don’t think that the CRM has completely left the Fear storyline as yet."
Jeffrey says:
"I think questions will be raised about the helicopter by Morgan and Alicia. I would imagine that they will mention it to their people when they reunite, so the group may be wanting answers about it. I think Althea will keep it a secret, but she may go through a struggle of lying to her friends about what she went through with Isabelle."
Ethan says:
"I think that Al will eventually tell the group. But she could have told them. I’m sure she could trust the group, the fans can. They wouldn’t put Al’s life in danger. However, as Morgan is focused on finding and helping people he may want to look for Isabelle which may not be a good idea. So it may be good that Al didn’t tell them after all."
Sara L says:
"I think under normal circumstances, yes. Althea is a very tough woman, I get the feeling that she views certain emotions as more of a weakness. If she opened up to the group I think she is worried they might not view her the same. Having this one time stranger experience was good for her and she will cherish it and hold it close to her heart as a private memory. However I do believe that if CRM comes back at any point or is a direct threat then she will open up about it for the good of the group."
