Fear The Walking Dead: Does Sherry really not want to be found?

Sherry’s note to Dwight on Fear The Walking Dead would devastate him if he ever sees it. Has their past made it impossible for these two to find each other again?

John Dorie made a tough decision this week on Fear The Walking Dead not to give Dwight the letter from Sherry that he found in the car. In the letter Sherry tells Dwight to stop looking for her and to find a reason to live. She wants him to stop looking for her so that he can live a full life that isn’t spend chasing a shadow.

Dwight was ready to give up on Sherry and on life when John and June met him. Even though he’s been reenergized by meeting them and he’s anxious to keep looking for Sherry now that John has found more clues John knows that Dwight’s mental state is pretty fragile still which is why he kept the note from Dwight.

But also John really believes that Sherry and Dwight can find each other again. He and June were apart for more than a year and yet they managed to find each other again and John believes that can happen for Dwight and Sherry too.

Dwight hasn’t said exactly what separated him and Sherry but John, who is very observant and a former cop, can easily see that whatever happened was pretty bad. He can sense that these two really need to find one another in order for both of them to put that chapter behind them.

John’s ambivalent about giving Dwight the letter but he is trusting their luck and trusting that Dwight and Sherry can find each other the way that he and June did. But would Dwight believe that if he saw the letter?

Dwight’s Search For Sherry

Why do you think that Sherry doesn’t want Dwight to find her? Do you think Dwight will ever find Sherry again?

Sonya says:

"I think Sherry is starting to get tired and depressed after all of this time. Dwight keeps finding her notes and clues so he has that little bit of hope to go on, but Sherry doesn’t have that. I’m sure it’s difficult for her to keep throwing notes into the world just hoping he’s still alive and looking for her when she has no idea if he is or isn’t. And I think she genuinely wants him to have a happy life, even if it’s not with her. She thinks that the best live she can give him is one where he’s not constantly searching. And that might be true, although I do hope they find each other someday."

Sara says:

"I honestly think that Sherry is afraid to come back to Dwight because she is afraid that Negan will find them. I think she is dealing with a lot of trauma from her time at the Sanctuary, and I think she is afraid to face Dwight after what they both have been through."

Jeffrey says:

"I feel as though Sherry is just looking out for Dwight like she always has. They have a strong love for one another and love makes people do things that aren’t always completely rational. It’s very much possible that Sherry may be a completely different person now than she was when they were together, so she may not want Dwight to see who she has become. I’m starting to think they may not actually find one another, but if they do, things might not play out like Dwight is hoping. A happy ever after might not be possible for them."

Renee says:

"I really don’t know why. It kind of makes me mad. She has been giving him hope for so long and then tells him not to look for her! Yes, I still feel he will find her. John won’t let Dwight stop looking. He knows how important it is to find lost love."

Ethan says:

"I believe that Sherry just doesn’t want to put Dwight in any danger. She loves him and feels that the best thing for him to do is give up looking for her because it could put him at risk. However, I do think they will run into each other this Season. If not I’ll be very surprised and disappointed as it feels like that’s what we’re building to."

Sara L says:

"I think Sherry doesn’t want to be found for the reason most folks in this universe don’t want to be found, she doesn’t think she deserves it. I’ll be honest, I don’t believe Dwight will ever find Sherry. I think maybe his story will focus more on him and his growth, things happen for a reason and I think if John and June had not found Dwight then he would have found that letter and ended his life. I think if Sherry doesn’t want to be found then it’s easy to hide, Texas is huge and with no hints Dwight will have no clue where to start."
