Showrunner Angela Kang confirmed there will be just a short time jump when The Walking Dead season 10 kicks off this fall.

Finally The Walking Dead fans are getting some information about the upcoming season 10. Ahead of the panel and season 10 trailer coming up at San Diego Comic-Con showrunner Angela Kang shared some vital information about season 10 with EW. In a recent interview with EW Angela Kang confirmed that there will be just a short time jump when The Walking Dead season 10 picks up again.

At the end of season 9, the survivors were recovering from the brutal massacre of some of the beloved survivors from the Hilltop and the Kingdom. Amidst a horrific snowstorm, the survivors from the Kingdom made their way to Hilltop to spend the winter and the Alexandria survivors welcomed Carol and Daryl home again.

Angela Kang said that a few months will have passed when the show starts again and the winter will be over. She told EW that “We’re passing a few months, probably. A little time has passed.

This short time jump will be a big change from the large 18 month time jump that occurred between the end of season 8 and the beginning of season 9. Season 9 then had a second time jump of about six years after Rick Grimes was spirited away by Jadis and taken to the helicopter community where he presumably still is, although the survivors think that he died after the bridge explosion.

A History Of Time Jumps

Both The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead employ time jumps to help push the narrative of the overall story arc forward and to close out particular chapters in the story. In the past, there have been short time jumps that occurred but season 9 had the biggest time jumps that the show has ever used.

Time jumps can be an effective way to focus the story on important events while still providing the backstory necessary to make the narrative complete. Most likely there will be short vignettes of flashback to highlight any important events that would have occurred during the time jump.

The Whisperers Arc

The short time jump also confirms that the survivors will still be dealing with the threat of the Whisperers and probably still grieving for those that were lost when Alpha used a gruesome method to mark the border of the Whisperer territory. Hopefully, fans will learn more about how the Whisperers will factor into season 10 at the SDCC The Walking Dead panel later this week.
