1. Working more with his mind

In the world of the undead, it’s easy to appreciate those who are great fighters. Characters like Daryl, Michonne, and others often time are revered for their ability to deal with walkers in a quick fashion as well as go toe-to-toe with some of the biggest human opponents yet.

Eugene isn’t really that guy. While he has proven himself to be able to defend himself, the real value of the character played by Josh McDermitt comes when he is allowed to work on projects and use his scientific mind.

If not for his ability to manufacture ammunition that backfired on the Saviors, there is no telling how the All-Out War would have ended. It’s just proof that taking the brains out of the community is a bad idea, just as fans saw when Alexandria couldn’t properly rig an explosive trap on the Saviors at the end of season 7.

Season 9 saw him using his knowledge to place a signal extender for his radio a considerable distance from Alexandria in hopes of finding other survivors. And, as we saw, that plan actually seems to be working.
