The Walking Dead movies will be released in theaters thanks to support from Universal, which also offers other exciting possibilities for the franchise.

Universal has partnered with AMC to produce the Rick Grimes movies that will expand The Walking Dead universe into new territory. Seeing Rick on the big screen is exciting enough, but the possibilities afforded by the partnership with Universal are even more thrilling.

The Walking Dead is growing by leaps and bounds. As a franchise, it has grown from a hit comic book series to one of the most-watched shows on television. Soon there will be three shows, with more likely on the way, and the addition of the Rick Grimes trilogy will take the franchise into theaters.

Now, though, the universe could expand even more now that Universal is playing a bigger role.

Universal’s partnership with AMC isn’t exactly new. After all, Universal Studios Hollywood is home to The Walking Dead Attraction, a walk-through exhibit and adventure that opened in 2016. Universal hosts Halloween Horror Nights every year, which is known for bringing terrifying movies to life in mazes and elaborate attractions, but their TWD-themed attraction is open all year so that fans can run for their lives from the walkers.

What if The Walking Dead Attraction became more than a walk-through exhibit? What if the world of The Walking Dead came to life in the same way that the wizarding world of Harry Potter came to life? Imagine an immersive world that goes beyond one attraction to an entire experience that recreates abandoned Atlanta, Woodbury, the prison and even Alexandria, complete with character actors dressed as our heroes and walkers around every corner.

Given the show’s popularity, it’s entirely possible that Universal could bring The Walking Dead to life and it helps that they’re already partnered with AMC to bring the Rick Grimes movies to the big screen.
