AMC released a preview clip of the newest spinoff of The Walking Dead today and it shows this spinoff will be a whole new world.

The Walking Dead universe is expanding quickly. As the original show gears up for season 10 and Fear The Walking Dead gets ready to start on a sixth season a new show set in The Walking Dead universe is filming now.

The spinoff will follow the lives of young protagonists who have grown up in the apocalypse world never knowing the world before. The first spinoff of The Walking Dead started at the beginning of the outbreak but this one is set far in the future long after the world of the past has disappeared.

The spinoff, which doesn’t have an official name yet, is filming now and tentatively is set to air in the spring of 2020. Watch the first look  preview here:

The first look lays out the premise of the show which seems to be that these characters have grown up in a community where they were sheltered from the horrors of the walkers and the fight for survival, possibly a period of calm that came after people learned how to survive in the apocalypse world. But they want to know the history of the apocalypse and what the world is like outside of their safe community so they’ve decided to go see for themselves what the world of The Walking Dead really looks like.

What We Know About The Walking Dead Spinoff

The show is currently filming in and around Richmond, VA. That expands the filming footprint of The Walking Dead as well creating a unique look for the new show. The original show still films in Georgia even though the settlements are located in Virginia in the show. Fear The Walking Dead films in Texas and is set in Texas.

There is no officially released title for the spinoff. However, considering that they repeatedly referenced “a new world” in the first look it wouldn’t be a surprise if the title turned out to be TWD: A New World or something similar.

The showrunner for the new spinoff is Matt Negrete, who has a long history of writing for The Walking Dead. He’s worked on some of the show’s biggest episodes both on his own and working with other writers including current showrunner Angela Kang and with Scott Gimple. Some of the episodes he’s written for are “Honor”, Carl Grimes’ farewell episode as well “The First Day Of The Rest Of Your Life” and “What Comes After” which is the episode that was Rick Grimes’ farewell episode.

The main cast of the spinoff is:

  • Annet Nahendru playing Huck
  • Alexa Mansour playing Hope
  • Nicolas Cantu playing Elton
  • Hal Cumpston playing Silas.

More casting news will be announced as the show’s debut gets closer. Considering that AMC is already airing two shows set in The Walking Dead universe it will be interesting to see when this spinoff will air and whether or not AMC will keep it in the Sunday 9 P.M. time slot that is associated with both TWD and FearTWD.
