The 5 best villains from The Walking Dead comic book series
By Adam Carlson
1. Negan and the Saviors
- Introduced: Issue 100
- Notable members: Negan, Paul, Sherry, Connor, “Lucille”
The Walking Dead comics were really good before issue 100, but there was something about the way Negan and the Saviors exploded on the scene which gave the series a big boost. Maybe it was the way people could relate to Negan’s sense of humor and pottymouth, but it was also one of the biggest threats the group had ever faced.
With a home at an abandoned factory, the Saviors controlled other communities and forced them to provide food and supplies in turn for eliminating walkers near their community and some “protection” from enemies.
The Saviors matched up well against the survivors and the leadership-by-intimidation method of Negan made sure that the community ran well. With so many resources available and continually getting more from the groups they “protected”, it didn’t look like anyone could stop them.
Key Moment: The lineup from Negan’s introduction was the biggest moment from the Saviors. The intensity of Negan’s game of “Eenie, Meanie, Miney, Moe” along with the message sent to the survivors after smashing Glenn’s head in with a baseball bat was enough to scar many readers for life. Not only that, but it established Negan and his barbed-wire bat Lucille as a combination nobody wanted to mess with going forward.
Biggest Kills: Glenn Rhee, Abraham Ford, Spencer Monroe, Holly
