Kevin Carroll joins The Walking Dead as new character Virgil

AMC’s The Walking Dead Twitter account reveals a brand new character played by Kevin Carroll! Will Virgil be a new friend or foe, or a remixed version of a comic character?

Every Thursday until The Walking Dead season 10 premiere on October 6th @WalkingDead_AMC will be releasing information they call TWDxReveals! Today we received this tweet!

Kevin Carroll is a very talented actor who has starred in a variety of shows and movies including The Leftovers, Snowfall, Sacred Lies, Paid in Full, and many others. Having him as an addition to The Walking Dead will be an absolute delight!

With any new characters being added to the show comes a vast amount of questions. Some of the most common questions I have personally seen are concerning the comics. Do we know these new characters, are they in the comics? Are they good or evil? Will I like them? However we all, of course, know that between the comics and tv show there are some major differences, so is this another?

On the surface, Virgil could be a small difference. As a character named Virgil is not in the comics this could be another background character. The tweet paints him as a veteran survivor who is trying to get back to his family at all costs. However, do we know if this is sincere? Or is he possibly trying to lure people to their demise?

In the two photos of Virgil we see that one of them is on a beach, so does he currently reside at Oceanside while trying to find his family? I think the photo at Oceanside could be key here. We know this season will be the last one Michonne is featured in. Could these two characters have interactions that could lead to Michonne’s exit?

In The Walking Dead comics as well as the Michonne mini-series video game, we learn that Michonne left the main group for an extended period to live at Oceanside. During this time she was a fisherwoman aboard “The Companion.” This is a time where Michonne was in a very dark place and considered committing suicide. However, she encounters a character named Pete who brings her back from that place.

Pete is a very level headed man who seems to be similar personality-wise to Virgil that they describe in the tweet. If I may say so, also bears a striking resemblance to Pete as well! (I just need a glace at that other ear to confirm he has a gold hoop earring) Pete prefers to talk things out before escalating to conflict. He is the leader of Oceanside, and the owner of the boat Michonne stays on. Also for Michonne’s time away he is a big support in her life. Pete is also the person that encourages Ezekial to go find Michonne and tell her his feelings (Ultimately leading to Ezekials capture by the whisperers)

Virgil might be a character that seems to be just passing through and no oceanside leader, but Michonne is still feeling the effects of Ricks “passing.” So could he be the reason she seemingly moves on with King Ezekial? Or could he reveal that his family is taken by a certain helicopter group or be armed with information she finds extremely valuable, prompting her to leave with him on this journey? We have to wait until season 10 to find out!
