The Althea Tapes: Clark’s story highlights the early days
As Fear the Walking Dead fans are treated to more stories in The Althea Tapes, Clark’s story reveals a glimpse of life in the early days of the apocalypse.
The Althea Tapes continue to deliver compelling stories of survivors who have crossed paths with Al during her travels, and in the case of a man named Clark the story takes fans back to the early days of the apocalypse with a subtle nod to Broke Jaw Ranch.
The latest edition of The Althea Tapes features a man named Clark. He was a bank manager in his past life, and when things got bad he packed up his family and headed to the hills. Now he lives by a lake, and he’s optimistic that with enough fish his family will make it through the winter.
Interestingly, he encountered Althea in the middle of his run into town to check on the bank (the vault is holding) and to go to the library.
Each story told in The Althea Tapes has revealed stories of human survival and courage in the face of devastating loss and death. In Clark’s case, though, his quest to preserve the items being stored in the vault mirrors Althea’s quest to document what happened after civilization collapsed.
Althea offers Clark the chance to tell people who he was in his previous life, but more importantly she offers him a chance to give his family a final message should the unthinkable happen on his way back from his trip into town. In this way, Althea is giving people a way to live on for future generations, and it’s here that the true power of her personal mission reveals itself.
Clark mentions a doomsday prepper friend, a subtle nod to the Otto family and the preppers at Broke Jaw Ranch. But more importantly it’s Clark’s message to his family that really hits you in the feels.
Al’s tapes will factor heavily into the second half of Fear the Walking Dead season 5. At this point her tapes already helped connect the group to the other plane, not to mention Daniel Salazar.
What else will be revealed on those tapes? Find out when Fear the Walking Dead returns on August 11 at 9pm on AMC.
