Theory – Star Trek: Discovery, the Mirror Universe and Madison Clark
Star Trek: Discovery pulled off a massive surprise with the return of a Mirror Universe Philippa Georgiou. Could such a plan work for Madison Clark?
Losing Madison Clark was a huge blow for fans of Fear the Walking Dead, but the fact that no one saw her dead body is a reason that many fans are holding out hope that the Clark matriarch is still alive somewhere. But what if her death was part of a larger plan, one that’s very similar to the journey of Michelle Yeoh’s character on Star Trek: Discovery?
As Mr. Spock would say, it’s quite logical.
When Madison Clark died back in season 4, Kim Dickens was visibly distraught when she appeared on Talking Dead. Ever the consummate professional, she kept her chin high as she recounted the story of how she found out that Madison’s days were numbered.
Coincidentally, Dickens’ plight isn’t that different than that of Star Trek: Discovery star Michelle Yeoh. Yeoh’s character, Captain Philippa Georgiou, was killed off after two episodes of the fledgling series despite a very warm reception to the character. Backlash from fans was swift, with widespread condemnation of the decision to kill off such a powerful female character.
It turns out that Yeoh herself was hesitant to take the role knowing that her character was going to meet such a grim fate…until showrunners explained that the plan was to bring Georgiou back later in the season in an alternate universe where she was an all-powerful evil emperor instead of a captain.
Yeoh was tasked with going through the motions of her character’s death, talking to the media and expressing her sadness to leave the show, all the while knowing that her character would be making a triumphant and unexpected return later on.
What happened with Michelle Yeoh could absolutely happen with Kim Dickens.
