Norman Reedus begged Danai Gurira to stay with The Walking Dead

Danai Gurira has confirmed this will be Michonne’s last season of The Walking Dead. Norman Reedus even begged her to stay.

Even though Reedus begged her to stay Gurira has confirmed Michonne will depart The Walking Dead after season 10.  Reedus stated at San Diego Comic-Con: “I’ve been begging her to stay since we started the season. She’s such a strong character, and she’s such a sweet lady, and she’s fun to work with, and she’s always on point,”

Reedus has stated he will miss Michonne as much as he misses Rick. Reedus seems to make incredible bonds with the people he works with. He worked with Sean Patrick Flannery on the Boondock Saints movies and they are still great friends and the duo are highly popular at any con they attend together. His bond with Andrew Lincoln is commonly known. And is shown with their never-ending prank wars.

We have all had fun watching his friendship with Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Their common love of motorcycles has been seen on both of their social media posts as well as Reedus’ show RIDE with Norman Reedus. The bond he made with Diane Kruger while filming Sky developed into a romantic relationship that has also resulted in a child.

So, it is no surprise that he has developed a bond with Gurira as well. Michonne has been with us since the last scene of season 2 (but that wasn’t Gurira portraying Michonne). This means they have had countless hours spent filming together enabling a tight bond to be formed.  The Hollywood Reporter quotes Gurira from SDCC:

"“I can confirm that this is the last season I will be on this amazing TV show as Michonne,” said Gurira, at first to an audibly sad reaction from the audience, before ultimately getting a standing ovation. “I would just like to say that this has been one of the purest joys of my life to play this role and to be amongst these people and those who are not here right now and amongst all of you. I’m very thankful for the experience I’ve had in ways I can’t state right now. My heart does not leave in any way, shape or form. The TWD family is forever. The connection between us never ends.”"

It will be sad to see Michonne go because she has developed into such a powerhouse in TWD world. When we first met her she was with her pet walkers saving Andrea. She then arrived at the jail with the formula for Judith. Which is such great symbolism since she becomes Judith’s mother in more recent seasons.
