Fear The Walking Dead: The battle for oil will be game changing
By Sonya Iryna
The survivors on Fear The Walking Dead are going to have to fight to control the oil fields. Will they be able to stop Logan from taking them?
Fear The Walking Dead season 5B is set to introduce a storyline that TWD fans haven’t seen before. Clayton, with very striking foresight, realized that when the world fell apart getting fuel was going to be very important in the future. He wrote down the location of an oilfield in his journal so that people would be able to produce gasoline on their own. But as Logan pointed out, whoever controls the production and distribution of gas in that world controls everything.
Logan and his crew went to all the trouble of luring the survivors out of the factory just to find the journal and the location of the oilfield. But Luciana has the journal still so they were out of luck. Logan still wants that information though and he knows they have it. He and his crew aren’t going to just accept defeat on this issue because taking control of the oilfield means taking control of everything in that world.
That means the survivors are about to get embroiled in a conflict that they don’t want. If they can’t fend off Logan and his crew and they lose control of the oilfield then Logan and his group will control everything in that area and everyone who lives there. They will be able to make Negan style demands because they will be the ones controlling the access to gas which people need.
The survivors know how important this fight is. They have dealt with people using supplies to control and dominate others at the dam, at the ranch, and of course with Negan and the Saviors. But can they keep control of the oil field and stay committed to their mission to help people? Our panelists have some thoughts:
The Battle For Oil
Anyone who controls the oilfields and the gas is going to have a pretty powerful advantage. Do you think that the survivors are going to be able to defend the oilfields against Logan and his crew?
Sonya says:
"I think they can win and keep control of the oilfields but I’m not sure they can do it without losing anyone. I also think that it might have a bad impact on their states of mind. They don’t want control and they don’t want to be in charge of everything so being put in a position where they have to be in charge in order to keep worse people from being in charge isn’t a position they want to be in. But I think ultimately they will do what they need to do to keep Logan and his group from getting control of the oil field."
Sara says:
"I definitely think they could! Their group has definitely grown in numbers and I think that the survivors stand a really good chance against Logan and his crew. Especially with Daniel around, Logan won’t have a chance."
Jeffrey says:
"Oil is such an important resource now that it is really starting to run low. In the real world, literal wars have been fought over this resource, so I can definitely see a major conflict happening between our group and Logan’s. Our survivors are very much equipped to fight, but I’m not so sure they would be willing to kill after their whole mission this season has been to repent. This may be the turning point for them though."
Renee says:
"The oilfields and gas are vital. I have a feeling Logan and his crew can beat our group. They have the man power and fire power. But, perhaps something crazy can happen and they can, in fact take them over."
Sara L. says:
"I do think they will be able to defend against Logan. Honestly I believe whoever is in possession of Daniels warehouse can defend just about anything. That warehouse has a vast amount of supplies of all kinds."
Jill says:
"Logan seems to be playing both sides, or wants to distance himself from”his” group. They’re threatening his life, so I don’t think sabotage will be beneath him."
