Fear the Walking Dead 509 recap: Channel 4
On The Road Again
Al talks about how she wanted to make sure that she wasn’t the only one documenting what happened. She explains that they raided a store for more batteries and tape for the camera so that they can keep recording. She knows how important this is.
Morgan explains that they needed more trucks to help with all of the missions. They use their radios to call each other, but this way they extend their reach. Sarah is seen filling a gas can from the tanker. Yes, they have a tanker, and she explains that this is how they keep the caravan moving. She says that Polar Bear’s people helped them at the oil fields with a tanker so that they could keep going.
Salazar says that he drives the SWAT van behind the tanker (with Skidmark) to prevent people from trying to take the tanker from them. Sarah, grinning slightly, explains that Logan thought they would fall for his line again “but we got him good.” Soon we see footage of Logan running after the SWAT van as someone tosses a box to him. She laughs about karma, admitting that what happened with Logan wasn’t wholly unlike what they did to Polar Bear, but this time it felt good.
Dwight pours gas into the van. He mentions that this time he got lucky for meeting up with the right people. We see him carving little figures, and soon he’s playing chess with Salazar and all of his carved figures. Salazar says that Dwight won’t let him cut his hair. Dwight points to his scarred face and doesn’t think that a haircut will make a difference, but Sarah disagrees. Salazar insists that a haircut would make him look “very presentable.”
Next we see Alicia’s weapon on the dashboard. She’s driving the sprinter with Strand and Luciana, which is the lead vehicle when they go out in the caravan. They’re responsible for making sure the roads are clear as they move on.
From there we see Alicia training in stick mastery with Morgan. She’s pretty good, too. She says that change is good and it’s what she needed. While she focuses, Strand goes out in his utility jumpsuit and kills the walkers. Al asks about his relationship with Alicia, and he says that she’s his friend and he wasn’t there for her when she needed him, but he’s there now.
From the road we travel to a camp. Vehicles provide the basis for a fence, with some orange construction netting to keep walkers out. June is there, along with Grace and several other people who have been rescued along the way. June explains that they left the denim factory because people were so far apart it made sense to take the show on the road. She’s confident that they will find their place someday. Grace keeps track of the food supplies, noting they’re low on powdered eggs.
A group of “growlers” comes and June rushes to clear them out with help from some of the other members of the caravan. Al asks her later about the wedding, filming the ring on her finger. June smiles, saying that they’re already married in spirit and that they have more important things to think about. We jump to a shot of John who says he has already given June his word and that’s all that matters.
While June helps a man with a cut on his arm, Al catches Graces feeling her neck. She asks what she’s doing and Grace says she’s checking for signs of radiation poisoning. Grace is always wondering if today is the day she’ll start feeling sick, but now she’s trying to help as much as she can. She’s listening to an audio book to help pass the time.
Morgan says he’s feeling good about what they’re doing. We see Sarah and Alicia driving along. Al asks what he’s feeling, and he thinks he finally has an answer.
They get a call from Luciana, who needs help. Morgan heads to them, finding Luciana and John at a house. The woman inside is named Tess and she can’t come out of her house because her husband rigged landmines all over their yard without marking where they are. Case in point, a wayward walker comes through and is blown to smithereens. She’s waiting for her husband to come home but so far he hasn’t been back. And without him, she has no idea how to get out.
