Fear The Walking Dead, Channel 4: Things To Note
By Liam O'Leary
1) This episode begins from Al’s perspective, through her camera. Technically, this is the first episode of Fear The Walking Dead to do this. I say “technically” because, this season’s second episode, “The Hurt That Will Happen” begins with Strand recording himself, but, this is the first episode to begin with this perspective, with the camera serving as Al’s first-person view.
2) During her first segment, June says how she didn’t trust “her” “when she reached out”. The “her” she’s referring to is Madison, back in Season Four’s second episode, “Another Day In The Diamond”.
3) In the “flashback” (I.E. Footage of times they caught people trying to reach them over the radio spliced in), you hear a woman asking “Can you really help me?”. Is that Samora, the woman we met in the final Althea Tapes webisode?
4) This episode’s title sequence is a low-def shot of the group’s convoy driving down the road, with some audio and tracking distortion, mimicking what you might see and hear on a used video tape.
5) During one of her segments, Al recounts how the group raided a Big Stop for batteries and tapes. Was the store intended to be a Big Spot, a chain that’s appeared a few time in the Walking Dead universe before (And presumably, the name got flipped around), or, was Big Stop a competitor to Big Spot? (On a side note: This is a nice way of explaining how they’re able to provide tapes to all the truck stops)
6) According to Sarah, the group has officially met with Clayton’s people, and get gas from them at the oil fields. Are they now, technically, allies to Morgan’s convoy?
7) Incidentally, if you were looking closely, when Madison was rifling through Al’s tapes in Season Four’s midseason finale, “No One’s Gone”, you might have noticed Al has a tape labelled “The Oil Fields”, this is the second place the group has gone to that Al had a tape of before they got there. Hmm…
