Honorable Mentions

Season 2 was such a pivotal season and there were a lot of important events that occurred in this season which didn’t make our panel’s list of favorite moments but still deserve a mention like:

Daryl Gives Caryl A Cherokee Rose, And Hope

Season 2, episode 4 “Cherokee Rose”

There was a lot going on early in Season 2. Rick and Lori were consumed with worry about Carl, Maggie and Glenn were just starting their romance, Shane was dealing with the aftermath of his sacrifice of Otis, and the others were distracted too. Carol was largely dealing with the fear and uncertainty of Sophia missing on her own. Daryl was the only one that was searching for Sophia and he showed his vulnerability for the first time when he brought Carol a Cherokee Rose, a symbol of hope. He told her the story of the rose and told her that he believed that he would be able to find Sophia and that she’d be ok.

This was a profound moment for both characters, neither of which were used to being treated with kindness or compassion. The unbreakable bond between Carol and Daryl really started in season 2, with this moment.

Rick Lays Down The Law To Shane

Season 2, episode 10 “18 Miles Out”

Randall caused a lot of problems in season 2. While taking Randall far away to leave him on his own Rick and Shane finally had it out about Shane’s relationship with Lori, the baby, and Shane’s constant challenge of Rick’s decisions. Rick told Shane that if he can’t accept Rick’s leadership then he needs to leave.

This moment broke their friendship and set in motion the events that would result in Rick killing Shane and Carl having to put Shane down to save Rick. It was a pivotal moment that had a huge impact on the rest of the series.
