Fear the Walking Dead, 210 Words Per Minute: Things To Note
By Liam O'Leary
1) This episode begins with Charles (a.k.a. Chuck) calling out to Morgan’s group over the radio. This is the first episode this season to begin this way.
2) This is the first episode of either Walking Dead show to take place in a mall, which is pretty remarkable, considering the long association between malls and zombies, thanks to George A. Romero’s 1978 masterpiece, Dawn Of The Dead, which took place in a mall.
3) Incidentally, it makes perfect sense that Chuck would seek refuge in a mall in the apocalypse, considering that, since Dawn Of The Dead never existed in this universe, no one would have it as a reference, and therefore, wouldn’t instinctively avoid malls because of it.
4) Was Chuck part of a larger group at one time? The entrance is barricaded, but, there are five zombies in the barbershop. Did Chuck corral them into there? Did they die in there during the outbreak? Or, were they members of Chuck’s group that he moved there after they died?
5) This episode’s title sequence features a merry-go-round sitting in a field at night.
6) Evidently, Morgan’s group must have picked up or at least found Wes (The young man at the end of the previous episode), and learned of Logan’s vendetta against them, as they are now very much aware of his raids against the truck stops and, using Daniel’s music, have developed a system of communicating indirectly to throw Logan of their trail.
