While it looked like Telltale Games would say farewell after their recent implosion, the developer of games based on The Walking Dead is being revived!

Making games based on The Walking Dead is a real challenge, especially on console and PC. Even licensed games or action-packed efforts have struggled to be popular or captivate an audience with one real exception: Telltale Games.

Publisher and developer Telltale Games have done a great job of creating emotional stories involving layered characters, and those stories came to an end with Season 4: The Final Season, which needed a big assist from Skybound Games to finish.

Interestingly enough, the corpse of Telltale Games didn’t stay in its grave. Polygon reports that the company’s assets have been purchased by LCG Entertainment and will be headed up by Jamie Ottilie and Brian Waddle with some members of the original staff returning in freelance roles with opportunities for full-time roles in the future.

Telltale has a lot of properties they can develop on its upcoming slate. But what does this mean for any future games based on The Walking Dead? Well, that’s where the bad news comes in for fans of the zombie drama.

"“We’re still evaluating, but we definitely want to continue some of the stories,” Jamie Ottilie said."

Even if Telltale decided it wants to add a chapter to the story of Clementine and RJ, they would have the hurdle of working with Skybound, which owns the license for that specific project.

To make things even more interesting, Polygon says that Skybound already has plans for game releases. That means the future of these stories are still up in the air, but there are now more opportunities for chances of a continuation or maybe even some side stories to emerge from the franchise.

The bottom line is that the revival of Telltale Games doesn’t change much for fans of The Walking Dead. Since Skybound owns the license, they hold all the cards in this deal. However, it does open the door for collaborations or future plans to made in the series, which has to be nice for fans who are hungry for more.
