Our panel’s look back at The Walking Dead as season 10 approaches continues with our favorite moments from season 4.

The Walking Dead season 4 was a turning point for Rick and the others. The story shifted after season 4 and started to take on a bigger arc that would take them out of Georgia and into a much larger world. But in season 4 they had to confront some obstacles they didn’t have to deal with before like the pandemic that swept through the prison.

Looking back now it seems clear even back then that community living isn’t sustainable in the apocalypse world no matter how strong the walls are or what type of community there is. As Daryl says, “Sooner or later, we run.” As time goes by and the world decays even further it becomes harder and harder to try to keep communities standing. That was made very clear in the season 9 finale when Ezekiel had to lead his people out of the Kingdom to Hilltop in order to survive the winter.

There were some big losses in season 4.  Losing Hershel at the hands of the Governor was a huge blow to the survivors, and to the fans. This time the squad wasn’t able to hold onto the prison and they were divided for most of the rest of the season. Season 4 also introduced Abraham’s Army of Abraham, Rosita, and Eugene to the show when they came across Glenn and Tara who were trying to find Maggie and the others.

Finding each other again at Terminus ignited the group again. This group has always been at their best when they are fighting together for each other. No matter how many years go by or how many people are lost that never changes. Here are the panelists’ favorite moments from The Walking Dead season 4:
