Tyreese comforts Sasha, “Positive thoughts, positive vibes.”

Season 4 Episode 3 “Isolation”

Sara L. says:

This moment may seem small compared to some of the huge and life-changing things to happen in season 4 but this moment and this quote mean the world to me. Tyreese has suffered the loss of not only losing Karen but finding her murdered and her body burned. Understandably upset and shaken by this, he lashes out at nearly everyone around him, blaming them in some way.

However, with his sister, all of those walls come down and he is her biggest supporter and we see emotions come through his tough exterior. We see her in a very sick and broken state, she jokes about her self through tears and begins to apologize for Karen. He shuts down what she is saying and says, “No don’t think about that now, think about getting better. Positive thoughts, positive vibes.”

This quote and a quote Hershel said, “A sad soul can kill quicker than a germ,” really go hand in hand. Season 4 of The Walking Dead had many things happen that were devastating, sickness, and death of loved characters. However, when I look back on this season all I have is the feelings of hope given by characters like Hershel and Tyreese. Without the hope and love they brought, this season could have been one to end our characters forever.

I now do reactions to The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead, and I like to end all my videos by saying, “think positive thoughts, and send positive vibes.” This quote has stayed with me because of how handy and incredibly true it is. Bad things happen in this world all the time, but a lot of the bad can often come from how you handle things. Clearing your mind and finding the positive in events that happen around you can affect the direction your life is heading.

It’s much easier to take a bad situation, dwell on it, let it keep you negative and lash out. In the long run however that doesn’t help your mental state and where you are in life. This quote and Tyreese taught me, you can take the bad and use that experience to better your life and the lives around you. Use the bad as a stepping stone to where you want to go and keep your head held high. Your mindset accounts for a lot more than you know, so keep it positive. R.I.P. Tyreese.

Judith is alive.

Season 4, Episode 10 “Inmates”

Tim says:

Season 4, especially the post-prison back half, offers up a lot of memorable moments. Darryl and Beth bonding while she searches for her first drink of booze. Carl not sure if his dad has gone zombie after the prison escape. The encounters with the Claimers. Michonne finding Rick and Carl. Carl gathering supplies. The arrival of Abraham. Not to mention the events at the grove.

My favorite moment, though, is a small one. In the second post-prison episode, “Inmates,” we see Tyrese holding Judith. It’s a masterfully shot moment – he turns around to answer Lizzie or Mika and we see him carrying Judith. The same baby Judith who we thought was killed in the governor’s attack, since her car seat was drenched in blood.

Now, at the time, I didn’t think they’d kill Judith because of her role in the comics and because I wasn’t sure the audience could handle seeing an infant die. I was right, but it took weeks to know that, thanks to the mid-season hiatus and the fact that the first episode after the attack focused on Rick, Carl, and Michonne.

The reveal of her survival was a dramatic moment, the kind the show did so well that season. Hell, the entire episode was full of great moments – Lizzie killing the baby bunnies as she slowly lost her grip on reality, Maggie finding the bus, Glenn meeting Tara (and us finding out he’d lived), Carol’s return, and Abraham, Rosita, and Eugene showing up at the end.

But none resonated with me as much as Judith’s survival. I didn’t even remember that those other moments occurred in this episode until I looked it up.

Tyrese turning around, however, has stayed with me. Not just because I was happy the show didn’t kill a baby, but because in a show in which there’s so much death and negativity, it was a truly happy moment.

The Walking Dead needs more moments like that as it enters season 10. Here’s hoping.
