The Walking Dead season 10 without Tara
By Renee Hansen
Tara Chambler joined The Walking Dead family in season 4. She seemed somewhat hostile upon our first introduction but eventually became a leader and integral part of Rick’s group, but now she’s gone.
Tara Chambler, portrayed by Alanna Masterson, made her first appearance in The Walking Dead season 4. She was uncertain about this new guy “Brian”, aka the Governor, aka Philip Blake, coming into her family’s lives. She eventually became a leader at the Hilltop and had such potential in that position.
When we first meet Tara she was living with her sister Lilly, niece Meghan and ailing father David. The man we all know as the Governor, changed his name to Brian and entered their lives. Tara was leery about this quiet stranger. He did help them some but Tara would find out his true nature during the attack on the prison.
When Tara meets up with Glenn she is in a bad spot emotionally. She witnessed the terror that was the Governor and she was harboring a lot of guilt because she was in the group that attacked the prison.
She eventually became an important member of the Hilltop and with the departure of Maggie and deaths of Gregory and Jesus finds herself the appointed leader. She is brave and smart and willing to listen to others making her a good leader for this group.

She fought the Whisperers until her very gruesome end as one of the people who were piked. I believe her leadership will be greatly missed in the coming season. The Hilltop will need to find a new leader and people like Eugene, who she was a good friend to, will definitely be affected by her death. People had really started to look to her for leadership and I felt she had great potential to grow in the leadership role. It will be interesting to see how the Hilltop fairs with the constant changes and losses in their leadership. Perhaps Maggie will return to reign over them and I do feel she is a better leader than Tara.
Masterson had this to say to Entertainment Weekly regarding what she will miss about portraying Tara and working on The Walking Dead:
"I’ll miss the cast and crew the most. They’ve become my home away from home, and I will forever cherish the bonds we formed. This show is impossible to make, and day after day we did it. I did it for 6 years, and I will miss the heat, the hours, and the challenges."
In less than a month The Walking Dead season 10 kicks off on Sunday nights on AMC. You can catch up on Season 9 on Netflix now.
