Lake Worth Beach, Florida ‘running’ with zombie alert prank fame

When a hacker made it sound like Florida was turning into a real-life version of The Walking Dead, Lake Worth Beach turned the apples into applesauce.

Those who follow the zombie genre may remember a time when a city in Florida had a power outage which resulted in an alert for undead activity being sent out to residents in 2018. While this didn’t result in a new real-life version of The Walking Dead, it has made an impact on the community.

Lake Worth Beach has become known for that little gaffe, but Have been capitalizing on the mistake by putting together great events centered around the gaffe which resulted in national attention and went viral as well as was poked fun of by many late-night TV hosts.

"“Zombies are kind of our thing now,” said Ben Kerr, city spokesman according to the Palm Beach Post. “We’re a bit famous for it.”"

Last year, the community created a quarantine zone to be safe from zombies and unloaded a truck of supplies there. This year, they will be hosting a ‘zombie run’ on Oct. 25 with registration opening for interested parties on Sunday, Sept. 15.

The event for 2019 will be a small one, taking place at Bryant Park and allowing only 25 zombies and 50 runners  That means any interested parties will likely need to register immediately if they want a spot as either a zombie or a human during the run.

Of course, events like this are a lot of fun for fans of the undead. Things like this are excellent events for those who enjoy The Walking Dead or other zombie movies, shows, or comics as a way to band together around a common interest.

If you will be in the Lake Worth Beach, Florida area on Oct. 25 and want to register, you need to get your registration in right away if you want a chance at participating, Otherwise, hopefully all the walkers and humans in Florida will have a chance to enjoy themselves during the run
