Prodigal Son preview and live stream: Tom Payne shines in new drama

The Walking Dead alum Tom Payne shines as criminal profiler Malcolm Bright in the new FOX drama Prodigal Son. Here’s our preview of his thrilling new show!

Losing Tom Payne’s Jesus on The Walking Dead was hard, but knowing that the handsome leading man is fronting his own series makes up for it. Payne’s new show Prodigal Son debuts on Fox on September 23 and fans will be thrilled to see that this show allows Payne to show so much more range.

Prodigal Son is the story of Malcolm Bright (Payne), a criminal profiler who specializes in serial killers. He has a unique insight into their minds because his father Dr. Martin Whitly (Michael Sheen) is one of New York’s most notorious serial killers. After his father tore his family apart, Malcolm has been trying to distance himself from his father but he’s finding that it’s not easy.

When NYPD Detective Gil Arroyo (played by TWD superfan Lou Diamond Phillips) asks for Malcolm’s help, he is drawn back into the world that he has been trying to avoid and that means he can’t ignore his father anymore.

Prodigal Son is a fast-paced drama with a compelling story and lots of action. It’s the perfect role for Payne, who trained a lot to bring Jesus to life on The Walking Dead but never got to show off all of his skills. Payne and Phillips are a dream team, and Sheen is glorious in his role as the smiling serial killer known as the Surgeon.
