Eugene remains an analytical mind in The Walking Dead season 10
By Adam Carlson
Eugene has been a major part of Alexandria’s development and a key in winning All-Out War, but season 10 of The Walking Dead gives him more to think about.
In a show that focuses so much on brute force, fighting, and human conflict, it is nice to see a character on The Walking Dead who takes a different approach to survival and instead tries to win battles using his mind.
Eugene has been surviving using his cunning since the start of the zombie apocalypse. From the early stages of the outbreak, he used the more physically intimidating survivors as protectors by fabricating a story about a cure. However, since his ruse was revealed, he was forced to interact more with other survivors.
Season 10 of the popular AMC zombie survival drama series is set to air in October and the question of what is in store for Eugene has to be asked. He might blame himself for introducing the Hilltop to the Whisperers and he still absolutely adores Rosita even if she doesn’t feel the same.
Recently, AMC released a character bio for Eugene for season 10 and it sounds like his role this year could be a big one. Here is what they had to say:
"“Still in love with Rosita, Eugene is once again the odd man out in vying for her affection and attention behind Gabriel, with whom she is in a relationship, and Siddiq, the father of her child. Eugene is lonely and wants to be in a relationship. He analyzes his actions with Rosita with the same vigor he problem solves for the communities. Both involve many people with different opinions. Both are life and death. His decisions could severely alter everyone’s way of life.”"
It’s still disappointing that a love triangle is still the main focus of Eugene’s story when he has so much to offer in terms of strategy, building for the future, improving communications, and making technological advancements. His obsession with Rosita has spanned since his arrival on the show and the fact there haven’t been a lot of advancements on that front should be concerning.
There isn’t much room for his situation to improve with Rosita. Now that she will be a mother in season 10 with Siddiq being the father and Gabriel being her significant other, it leaves even less room for Eugene to make his move.
But the hope has to be that Eugene finds some bigger roles in the community or finds someone else to focus his adoration on. Other than the time when he double-crossed the Saviors, Eugene has been spinning his wheels as a character, even looking pathetic at times.
It’s time for Eugene to step up for himself and put himself first in a prideful way. He’s a genius who has adapted to be able to fight in the zombie apocalypse and needs to be more proud of who he’s become instead of trying to pass his worth off on someone else in season 10 of The Walking Dead.
