Season 5 was a game-changer for The Walking Dead. Still struggling from their losses and the events at Terminus the group faced more heartbreak and more loss. After getting out of Terminus Carol and Daryl went to try to find Beth, who was being held prisoner at Grady Hospital in Atlanta.

Tragically Beth’s rescue didn’t play out as planned and Beth was killed. And while trying to fulfill Beth’s wish to help Noah get home Tyreese was bitten, which was another huge loss for the group.

They faced a difficult physical journey out of Georgia for the first time. They almost didn’t make it, but their bonds to each other kept them going as they traveled to Virginia.

Then they met a stranger who gave them a glimpse of something they thought was gone forever: normalcy. They found a secure community with strong walls, beautiful homes, and people who had never had to truly face the horrors outside their gates.

Learning to live in that community was tough but slowly they adjusted. Rick had more trouble adjusting than some of the others. But just when Rick was going through his most difficult time a person from the past returned to help him find himself again. Daryl showed up at Alexandria with Morgan, who had been trying to find Rick. Morgan’s reappearance in his life was a major turning point for Rick, and for the story.
