Maggie And Sasha Share A Quiet Moment

Season 5 Episode 10, “Them”

Jeffrey says:

The entire fifth season of the show is just filled with unimaginable losses. Bob dies at Father Gabriel’s church, Beth is shot at Grady Memorial Hospital, and Tyreese is fatally bitten on the road to Washington DC. These deaths weigh heavily on the entire group, but Maggie and Sasha are really forced to pile up their losses and keep moving forward. Over the course of this episode, the two are at their lowest thus far. The end of the episode provides them with some comfort as they set their course for the future.

Following the decision to travel up to Virginia, things get difficult. We see Maggie and Sasha contemplate if they even want to keep fighting anymore. The real standout moment comes the morning after a vicious tornado rips through the area, leaving our characters alive only by pure luck and possibly some divine intervention. Maggie and Sasha exit the barn to inspect the damage and end up watching a beautiful sunrise together. It’s a rare occasion when the characters actually get to enjoy something peaceful.

The reason this moment is so special is that it really emphasizes the importance of Maggie and Sasha’s friendship. Here they are able to bond over experiencing such massive losses, facing life without their loved ones, and finding solace in the fact that they’re still alive. These two hardened warriors being beaten down by the world only to find inner strengths in themselves and each other is really what this whole show is about. I’ve always believed that the friendship between Maggie and Sasha is one of the most important relationships in the series, and this moment really just showcases that.
