Rick Says Goodbye To Hershel One Last Time

Season 9, Episode 5, “What Comes After”

Sara K. says:

My favorite moment from season 9 has to be in Rick Grimes final episode of the show. In “What comes after” Rick gets seriously injured from falling onto rebar, and begins hallucinating people from his past. One of the people who Rick hallucinates is Hershel. Rick finds himself back at Hershel’s barn where he gets to reunite with Hershel one last time.

This moment was so emotional for me to see. Rick and Hershel shared a very special bond. Hershel was almost like a God-like figure to Rick who always grounded him and gave him hope when he needed it. He had been Rick’s wings when he needed them. He pushed Rick to be a better leader when he was in pain and felt lost. Hershel was one of the most important people in Rick’s life and it made so much sense to have Rick reunite with him in his final episode.

It was one of the most emotional moments in the series, and as a huge fan of season 2, it made me so happy to see. Rick felt like he was unable to hold it together after all that he had been through, but Hershel reminded him of how much good that he had done. It was also such a nice tribute to Scott Wilson who passed away before this episode aired.
