5 questions we have after watching The Walking Dead episode 1001
By Adam Carlson
Other than the Whisperers, what is the biggest threat facing the survivors?
The Whisperers are arguably the scariest threat fans have ever seen on The Walking Dead. The way they live and how they interact with other groups are enough to leave the other survivors trembling when they are usually brave.
But there is more to worry about than just Alpha and her people. What else should fans be worried about when it comes to season 10 of The Walking Dead? Our panel discussed that question.

Aside from the whisperers and themselves, I would say the walkers! The whisperers had that massive herd of epic proportions and I do not believe that it is just gone. Even if somehow all of the whisperers are destroyed, the walker herd is this there. A herd of that size could wipe out all of the communities. I would be walking on eggshells if I were them.

While paranoia will be a huge detriment to the survivors in season 10, I believe that the next biggest threat to them outside of the Whisperers is the lack of quality leadership candidates.
Season 9 saw the departures and deaths of a whole host of figureheads from the communities. Be it Rick, Maggie, Jesus, or Tara, there was a huge amount of loss of community leaders this past season. In addition to all of that, we know that Michonne will be leaving too, meaning that very few tenured characters remain to take charge.
Even those who would seem logical to step up may not be as well-equipped as in the past. Both Ezekiel and Aaron are full of rage after the losses they have suffered because of the Whisperers. Carol is similarly distraught, although her inability to lead comes more from being emotionally distant rather than angry. Both Eugene and Rosita will be preoccupied with raising Coco, while Siddiq will be too busy dealing with his own PTSD from the pike massacre. Magna will definitely move into a greater position of power, but there are concerns over her loyalties between her original crew and the rest of the community when push comes to shove.

As with any major threat, there is always the potential for our survivors to turn against one another, which would, in turn, hurt their own fight against the Whisperers. Based on what they have been through before with other villain groups, we have already seen that this group of survivors have different ways of dealing with threats. There is a risk of the communities tearing themselves apart from the inside if they all can’t stay on the same page and stick to plans.
All it takes for one survivor to go rogue or get extra bloodthirsty to cause everything to fall apart. The Whisperers are a threat unlike anything they have dealt with and it will take a united front for our survivors to defeat them. The war against the Saviors exposed the weakness of some of our survivors to take things into their own hands, but hopefully they have learned from this.

The division of ideals between Aaron and Michonne has already set a division of survivors into motion. With so many wanting revenge on the Whisperers, it will be tough to keep the group on the same page going forward, and with that, there are bound to be a lot of conflicts.
Keeping a level head in situations where you are absolutely furious can be tough, but it’s what the survivors need to do if they want a real chance at beating the Whisperers. Otherwise, it will end up being a situation where Alpha and her people can pick off people just a few at a time and win the war without much trouble.
