This week’s episode of The Walking Dead goes back to the early days of Alpha and Beta. Here’s your recap of “We Are the End of the World.”

We begin 7 years ago. An SUV crashed into a pillar and the driver landed on the horn, attracting the walkers. She wakes up and finds that the door is jammed, so she jumps out the passenger door and tries to escape under the car but she is eaten first. Alpha and a young Lydia are moving with the walkers, covered in blood, but when Lydia’s ear muffs fall off she hears the woman’s cries and sees her face being devoured and starts screaming.

Alpha leaps into action, finding an unlocked door. She’s furious that Lydia almost got them killed “again” and Lydia apologizes. She looks up to see a tall man standing at the end of the long hallway.

Cue the credits, here we go!

Back in the present the Whisperers work in their camp. Beta is shaving Alpha’s head and he tells her that they are far from the “enemy”. She asks if he doubts her leadership. “Never,” he replied. They need to obtain new members of the pack and that means going out on a mission. Alpha tells him to take the sisters with him because they have a gift.

Back in the past, Alpha asks the man to speak. Instead, he hits a pipe and makes a spark. She challenges him to kill them, warning him that she doesn’t die easily and he’ll have to kill Lydia. And if he kills Lydia she’s not leaving this earth without her. (Very ominous warning, if you ask me!) She’s fearless as she stares the large man down.

“One night,” he says, and she thanks him. He warns them to not leave the hallway, but Lydia asks if she can wash up because she’s covered in blood. The smell bothers her. Alpha asks if there is water and he nods, then he walks away.

Lydia asks her mother if he’s a monster, and her mother tells her that they’re all monsters now.
