In the present Beta warns his people that the buildings could have people in them. They’re walking with part of the herd down a road. He signals with his hand to one of the sisters, who gets his message and veers off from the pack, telling her sister that they work better when they’re apart. The one sister, Frances, is the one who had the baby in the field.

Frances gets distracted by the sky, and she stops and stares despite her sister Mary’s warning. Frances says that the sun feels different, but Mary says that Beta will notice and think she’s not devoted to the mission. Mary wishes she had left her sister behind.

Back in the past, Alpha washes Lydia’s hair. When the sound of walkers becomes too much, Lydia covers her ears but Alpha takes them away. Later, Alpha (who is already bald) rummages through the cans looking for food. The man at the end of the hall paces, then he approaches her and asks if she’s singing. She had been humming. He warns her not to do it. He asks if she has a name and she says the dead don’t have names, so they shouldn’t either. She says they fear nothing, and they only feed.

Beta explains that he got into a fight and ended up there. He likes the sound of the dead and hopes it never stops.

In the present, Beta stops at fence in a parking garage. He rattles the fence and groans, attracting the dead and convincing them that he’s one of them. That way, as soon as the fence is raised he can lead them away to do his bidding.

Outside, the new members of the pack cross the field. Frances looks up at the sky again and Mary warns her to focus. She starts to hear a baby’s cry in her head and sees the image of Alpha shrugging when she gave the order to leave the baby. She starts to make noises and gets the attention of some of the walkers, so Beta has so swoop in and kill them. “You will pay,” he warns her.
