The Walking Dead 1002 recap: We Are the End of the World
Frances is thrown to the ground back in the camp and she apologizes over and over for what she did. Mary watches as Beta stands over her. Frances says she loves her baby and he’s gone to “a better place.” Beta signals one of his people to kill her but Alpha stops him.
Beta tells Alpha that Frances is a threat now, and that her child broke her. Alpha says he will never understand the bond between a mother and child. Even though Lydia is gone, dead to her, she still feels it.
Back in the past, Alpha leads Lydia into a padded room so that she can sleep. Lydia asks about the pillows on the walls and Alpha says that they’re so people wouldn’t hurt themselves. Lydia asks about the man out there, but Alpha says this place couldn’t control someone like him. She asks if her mother likes him, and she does.
Alpha hands her daughter her stuffed bunny but Lydia wants to be brave like her mother and doesn’t want the bunny. This makes Alpha very happy, because she didn’t want to be forced to leave Lydia behind if she couldn’t work that out. She tells her daughter to stop calling her “mama.”
In the present, Frances enters Alpha’s underground chamber and begs Alpha not to talk about her son. Alpha commands her to remove her mask. She does so, and Alpha tells her to kneel. Alpha puts her hands on either side of the girl’s head and she screams.
Outside, Mary looks in the direction of the sound as Beta walks by.
Inside the cave, Alpha pulls the girl closer to her and shushes her as the girl thanks her. Alpha closes her eyes and strokes her hair.
