The Walking Dead gave fans a look at how Alpha and Beta met in the second episode of season 10 and fans had some big reactions.
After a primarily feel-good season opener, The Walking Dead took a much darker turn in episode 1002 titled “We Are The End Of The World” by showing fans a little more about how Alpha became Alpha and how she met Beta. The episode had two interspersed timelines that showed Alpha moving her pack back near the communities and showed flashbacks of when Alpha met Beta.
Fans also learned a bit more about how Alpha keeps her pack loyal to her. When the mother of the baby that was rescued by the Hilltop was unable to deal with her grief and cried out, drawing the attention of the walkers and putting the entire pack at risk, Alpha didn’t kill her. She was surprisingly comforting to the girl, which seemed to calm the girl.
Alpha’s approach may have been a mistake though since after that the girl tried to kill her. Gamma rushed to save Alpha, letting walkers tear her sister apart. For her loyalty, she was given her name, Gamma, and Alpha seemed to see her as a bit of a protégé.
The roots of Beta’s devotion to Alpha were shown in the flashbacks where Alpha found him in an old hospital where she had taken refuge with Lydia. The two bonded over their unusual view of the dead as the next evolution of humanity. The two may have clashed over Alpha’s lie about killing Lydia, but Beta is totally devoted to her and will continue to respect her leadership.
The episode was very dark and most fans found it to be a fascinating look into how Alpha and Beta came to form the Whisperers and what it is that keeps them living this strange lifestyle. And stunning performances from Samantha Morton and Ryan Hurst caused fans to have some big reactions to 1002 on Twitter:
