Negan and Aaron fight off the dead when Negan finds a crobar. Negan says God put it there for him, and the broomstick isn’t cutting it. He’s only trying to help, but Aaron isn’t willing to hear that. Aaron tells him to drop it, and to get the three walkers on his side of the road.

Night has fallen by the time Michonne’s group reaches the border. The pikes are still in place, having been converted to memorials for the fallen. It’s hard to ignore being there again, but knowing that Alpha is coming makes the focus on her. They lay down their weapons and wait.

Daryl goes to Carol, who is looking down at the wood coin under Henry’s pike. Her gun is tucked into her pants.

Rosita thanks Eugene for coming out to fight with her, but he’d rather go back. That doesn’t mean he’s leaving, tough. He’s staying with her.

Daryl alerts the group that the Whisperers are coming. They arrive in a group, moving like the dead. Alpha pulls her mask off and approaches, noting that there was only one rule between their people and they broke it. Daryl points out that the fire would have burned them. Michonne says they only crossed once, but Alpha knows they crossed three times. “We are always watching,” she reminds them. There was during the fire, during the winter and on the bridge with the man with the metal arm.

Alpha says she will consider the context, and that there will be no bloodshed on this night. She’s appointing new borders, and that triggers Carol, who won’t stand for them losing their hunting ground. Alpha wants to hear more, but Daryl sees that Carol is getting angry and tries to stop her. Alpha’s interest has been piqued by Carol, whom she hasn’t met yet. She wants Carol to lower her eyes to her, and she tells Carol that she should fear her. But Carol feels nothing when she looks at Alpha. Alpha hears her name and says that “the blond boy” screamed her name when they killed him. Carol grabs her gun and shoots at Alpha but Michonne knocks her arm so that she misses, firing into the ground.

Michonne tells her that they have gone without sleep, and Alpha knows what Carol has lost. Alpha says she forgives her, “mother to mother”, and she tells them that this is her land now. Then she tells them to run.
