Later, Michonne and Ezekiel sit on the edge and talk. He apologizes for the kiss and she laughs, saying they never would have worked out. “Maybe in another universe,” he says. He says he lost everything. His kingdom, Benjamin, Shiva, Henry, the Kingdom, Hilltop and Carol. He doesn’t even know how to talk to Carol. He didn’t know what he was going to do when he came to the edge.

Michonne points at his chest and says she has been there, too. A long time ago, when she was alone. She envied walkers and thought about letting them bite her, but she’d kill them with her bare hands until she gave up. It “feels like a mask, til it doesn’t.”

Ezekiel says his old mask saved him, but he can’t do it again. She says it’s harder the second time around, especially when you are used to having your partner in crime there. “That walk,” she says with a laugh and a teary smile. But now everything is up to her.

“Yet I smile,” Ezekiel says.

Later, as they walk back, Michonne tells Ezekiel that he’s not a bad kisser. He laughs, saying that wasn’t his best effort. She hasn’t kissed anyone over four feet in a while so that’s fine by her. She tells him that the next time…she makes him promise not to ride off by himself.

Back at Hilltop, the walkers are pushing against the fences. Earl and Alden work to brace it  while Yumiko leads a group out to kill the walkers.

In the Alexandria mess hall, Lydia sits down with Gage and Margot (the Highwaywoman) and proceeds to cut up a squirrel. Gabriel watches as one of the other Highwaymen says that this is why their friends die. Lydia holds her finger to her lips and shushes them.

Daryl goes to see her and asks if she wants to live there. He knows that they were messing with her but she can’t do stuff like that to them. He offers to go talk to them but she wants to fight her own fight. She storms off, leaving Daryl to ponder being a parent.

That night, Lydia is walking around the laundry area when Margot steps out of the shadows. She holds her finger up and soon Lydia realizes that she’s surrounded. Margot grabs her and tells her that she will give her a chance to run away now, but Lydia says this is her phone. Margot throws Gage in and tells him to fight for Rodney and Addie. When Lydia says that she loved Henry, he lunges at her. They beat her up and pin her to the ground when Negan suddenly appears. Lydia grabs his ankle and he hovers over her protectively. Pretty soon, though, it is revealed that in throwing Margot off of Lydia she crashed into the wall and smashed her head. She’s dead. Negan looks over and realizes that he’s in trouble.
