The Walking Dead 1004 recap: Silence the Whisperers
Siddiq examines Margot’s body as everyone starts to blame Negan. Daryl starts screaming that Negan didn’t do anything wrong. Daryl, who is holding Lydia, tells her that he knows he didn’t do anything wrong when he sees that her distress is getting worse.
Soon Siddiq has to run away from the scene as the ghosts come back to haunt him. He runs in and screams into a bowl of water.
Dante is tending to Lydia, who is hunched over in a sign of shock. Daryl comes in and he’s so sorry this happened to her. She tells him a story of someone who didn’t like deodorant. They smelled like garlic and onions. She says the dead protected her. Daryl asks what happened and she says that Negan saved her life. He pulls her into his arms and holds her.
Later, Daryl goes to see Negan. He asks about Lydia before anything else. Daryl grants him an answer, that she’s banged up, and then he says that peole are calling for Negan to be killed now that Rick isn’t around. Negan doesn’t take the bait. He says it was an accident, but he doesn’t think it was a big loss because she was beating on a kid so the world is better off. But Negan knows that Daryl knows it, too. He doesn’t know what to do with Negan now. Daryl says that there’s no one to save him. Negan says the people are out for blood. They both know that. Daryl asks why he helped Lydia. He’s no hero. Negan says he’s a sucker. He started to follow their way of life and he started to believe it, until they took it away when he finally did the right thing. Daryl tells him that Negan will be able to tell his side of the story, but Negan doesn’t believe for a minute that it will be a fair trial.
On his way back home, Daryl spots Carol on the porch. She heard what happened. Daryl says it’s a mess, and Carol says that people are talking about Negan again just like the old times. Daryl doesn’t care about Negan, but he believes Lydia. Carol says that this is all a “distraction”. Hilltop has a tree in its walls, and Alexandria was attacked. Daryl says they don’t know it was an attack, but she insists that the enemy is out there. “We should have gone to New Mexico,” she says.
At Hilltop, the fight against the walkers continues as Magna’s group battles to protect the walls. Luke says the dead keep coming but Yumiko wants to go back in or they will die. Magna is locked into the fight and she doesn’t want to go, but Connie pulls her back in just in time to seal the gates from the dead.
Once inside, the rest of the fence collapses as Ezekiel and Michonne ride in with the wagon. “Defend the breach!” Ezekiel yells. Michonne and Judith spring into action against the dead, with mother and daughter fighting side by side with their swords.
