Overall impression

For an episode where a lot happened then got cleaned up pretty quickly, this was a quite entertaining installment of The Walking Dead. There were a lot of characters and new combinations of actors working together that hadn’t gotten much screen time together, which made it seem special and unique.

So far, fans still don’t know a lot about what happened with the Whisperers. Whether what happened in this episode was done at their hands or not, it was nice to see the survivors dealing with something other than a human threat for a while.

There were some standout performances in this episode. Michonne shared great scenes with Judith and Ezekiel and Negan’s scenes with Daryl and Lydia were both very powerful to watch. As usual, the cast and effects team did an awesome job in the fights as well.

After watching this episode, there is a lot to digest going forward. Negan and Lydia both appear to be in a really bad place while Ezekiel, Luke, and Yumiko seem to be finding their place. The survivors fighting together, yet seeing the division between the groups is extremely complicated. And we still don’t know what is going on with Alpha and the Whisperers.

Now that the show a quarter of the way through the season, fans should have a good idea of the build toward conflict during the midseason finale. There is a lot to build off with each community as well as their shared problems with the Whisperers. The seeds are being planted for something intense, and it will be interesting to see just what that may be.

EPISODE GRADE: 8.4/10
