2. On the edge

I am convinced King Ezekiel is one of the most positive characters to ever come out of The Walking Dead universe, so to see this man wanting to end it all was soul-crushing. Khary Payton is such an amazing talent, for the camera to pan around to him standing on that ledge with his eyes saying everything just took my breath away, I’m not kidding, I don’t recall breathing until Michonne grabs his hand.

I know what some readers may be thinking, the kiss isn’t on this list?! No, because it goes deeper than just a kiss. When Ezekiel kissed Michonne it wasn’t out of passionate love for her, it was out of confusion. He has lost everything, he wanted a moment to feel grounded like he existed and he wasn’t hovering over an empty shell of a former life.

King Ezekiel has lost things before and he was able to pick himself back up. However, it’s clear he never got over those past losses. Even losing the fighters, Shiva, Benjamin and the others he was able to throw himself into being a leader the kingdom needed, he had his family and Jerry and just repressed the bad.

Seeing him open up to Michonne and the two of them have such a gut-wrenching conversation was long overdue. I have to admit, this scene still left me feeling uneasy because those dark thoughts do not just leave one’s mind after one talk.

This WTF moment is bigger than just seeing him stand on the edge. It’s also what does this mean for his future, and does he even have a future? Scary thoughts for a character that has brought so many smiles to fans.
