The Walking Dead 1005 review: Revelations and resources
The Walking Dead is in the thick of season 10 and episode 1005’s “What It Always Is” introduced new facets to the story that has been building.
Season 10 might be one of the best seasons of The Walking Dead. Every episode has been top notch, and it’s exciting to think that there are still so many episodes yet to come. “What It Always Is” advanced the story in a number of ways, and it could be one of the finest episodes of the season thus far based solely on character development alone.
“What It Always Is” was character development at its finest, advancing the stories of several characters by providing just enough information to either make fans really excited, or really worried.
This week’s review puts the emphasis on the characters and what happened to them within the story, because that’s what made this episode so great.
Ezekiel
The preview for 1005 indicated that Ezekiel had a secret, and now we know what it is: He’s sick. Unfortunately, he’s not sick in a “bad cough” kind of way. He has a lump in his neck and a family history of thyroid cancer, and though there’s a very high cure rate for thyroid cancer those cures don’t exist in the zombie apocalypse. (He might also have a thyroid condition called goiter, which presents the same way as thyroid cancer)
Naturally, this makes for a story that will no doubt continue through the rest of the season. It’s interesting because Ezekiel is dead in the comics, so the King is in uncharted territory now. Of course, knowing that Ezekiel needs radiation therapy and it just so happens that Eugene has some radioactive materials laying around.
No matter what happens, it’s hard seeing all that the King is going through. He has lost a lot over the past few seasons and now he’s facing an uphill battle with his health. One big question: Will he reveal his condition to Carol or will she ever find out that he’s sick?
