The Walking Dead 1005 review: Revelations and resources
Magna
Magna seems to be in quite the funk. After fighting with Yumiko in “Silence the Whisperers” she seems to have taken to sulking in the same place where Jesus went to escape the stress of running Hilltop. Later, we find out that Magna and Kelly were working to store supplies in case things went sour in the community. This was an incredibly selfish and bad idea on her part because there is so much tension in the community already, and creating division (should someone find out) is not what they need right now.
Her complex history with Yumiko spans 13 years and dates back to when Yumiko served as her lawyer after she did something (we’re assuming it was murder) to the man who hurt her niece. Magna might not have been guilty in that sense, but she can’t stand to see the look on Yumiko’s face when Yumiko doesn’t trust her.
Yumiko
Despite the drama in her personal life (and it would appear that this drama has been going on for quite some time, long before the onset of the apocalypse), Yumiko is settling in as a leader at Hilltop. Whether it’s her background as a lawyer, used to working under pressure, or it’s a natural ability to take control, she’s doing a great job. The only thing that could be a problem for her is Magna’s behavior. Magna looked the other way while Kelly ran the supplies out of the storeroom, and hiding that secret is something that could put them all at risk.
Regardless, it’s a great time to have Yumiko’s leadership in place while Ezekiel struggles with his health issues. Her cool and calm demeanor will come in handy as Hilltop residents like Earl worry about the coming conflict with the Whisperers.
