Colman Domingo’s musical ‘Summer’ opens at the Hollywood Pantages

Colman Domingo’s Summer: The Donna Summer Musical is coming to the Hollywood Pantages theater on the first stop of its national tour.

Donna Summer was a legend whose music shattered records while she broke through the barriers that kept people from achieving their dreams. Fear the Walking Dead star Colman Domingo brings her story to life in Summer: The Donna Summer Musical, a riveting celebration of Summer’s life and music that opens at the Hollywood Pantages Theater on November 5 on the first stop of its national tour.

From “Love to Love You Baby” to “Bad Girls” all the way to legendary songs like “Hot Stuff” and “Last Dance”, Summer’s music inspired fans young and old. Summer features over 20 of her hit songs in a lively and vibrant celebration fit for a music icon.

Domingo, along with Robert Cary and Des McAnuff, wrote the book on this musical journey through Summer’s life. Summer opened to critical acclaim at the La Jolla Playhouse in 2017 before moving to Broadway in 2018.

Now, Summer: The Donna Summer Musical is embarking on a multi-city tour and the first stop is the Hollywood Pantages Theater in Los Angeles. Summer will play November 5-24 before moving on to the next stop on the tour, San Francisco.

Be sure to grab an aisle seat, because Summer is the kind of musical that will have you jumping out of your chair and into the aisles, because you can’t fully appreciate Summer’s music without dancing. Trust us – you won’t be the only one on your feet!

Even if you’re not a Southern California resident, you probably know the Hollywood Pantages Theater. Located on Hollywood Boulevard near the iconic Hollywood and Vine intersection, the Pantages opened in 1930 and over the years it has hosted movie premieres, the Academy Awards and several national touring theater productions. Once owned by Howard Hughes, anyone who sets foot inside the theater is instantly transported back to the 1930s thanks to several restorations and loving maintenance that keep the Hollywood Pantages going as a piece of Hollywood’s illustrious past.
