1. King Ezekiel has cancer?!

In a world full of the undead, terminal illness isn’t a common topic. In The Walking Dead universe, this isn’t something that we talk about all the time or have characters go through however, we should. This is a very real topic and many people go through this every day but in the scope of apocalypse shows all we are thinking about is the next big bad, or walkers.

The closest we have gotten to this is Grace in Fear the Walking Dead, but even then she was exposed to large amounts of radiation so this wasn’t a truly natural occurrence. It also ended up not being cancer, but a pregnancy, so something dark turned into a positive driving force.

One of the huge reasons this tops my list is because of who it is happening to, cancer is never fair no matter the case, however, the King truly has nothing at this point. He had to witness losing 30+ fighters in the war, losing Benjamin, Shiva, Kingdom, his son in a horrific way. Then have his wife tell him his life is a fairytale and leave him. We have even seen his mental health suffer greatly.

So why take everything from this character and then his health as well? Everyone was hoping to see a strong comeback but with death via cancer looming on his future, it just leaves fans with more angered at how the Kingdom has gotten treated. Theories of what this could mean have been swirling in the community. Would this create a reason for Carol to resume a relationship or give the group a reason to pursue Commonwealth?

Both of those options do not sit right with me. If cancer was placed in King Ezekiel’s story just to pick back up a relationship with Carol, then keep him single. I’d rather have him alive and find a new purpose. If cancer was given to push a treatment story with Commonwealth, why would that even be needed? Many other reasons could push them to a new community.

This goes above Brandon’s crazy storyline because, in a few weeks, Brandon will be the last thing on our minds. We will continue to feel the sting of terminal illness given to one of our only community leaders left for seasons to come.
