Beta leads Negan to a clearing. He’s still talking and talking about how he becomes a Whisperer. Beta tosses him a shovel and tells him to dig. “Just dig,” he says. This leads to Whisperer initiation, where Negan and Beta skin a walker and Negan tries to compensate for the size of his skin while Beta gets a much bigger piece. Then it’s back to digging. Negan wants to stop, but one look from Beta puts Negan back in action. They carry walkers, and Negan has one while Beta carries two. Negan shakes his head. The digging continues. Beta gives Negan a knife to stab the pig after they shoot it. The pig is placed into the pit that Negan made.

Siddiq brings Rosita to the infirmary, where they realize that there are more sick people than before. Dante is overwhelmed. Siddiq jumps into action and tells him to start getting herbs together. They need to get ahead of it.

Daryl and Carol reach the new border and they agree to meet back up if things go bad. He taps his pocket and says they have luck on their side.

Negan is ready to eat but Beta says he hasn’t earned it yet. He throws Negan to the ground and Negan sees Alpha watching. Negan smiles and walks away, and when he sits down next to a Whisperer, the Whisperer offers him a piece of his meat. Beta watches, angry.

Eugene, aka Taterbug, continues his search. Finally, someone answers. It’s a woman’s voice.

The herd of walkers congregates in a circle and Carol and Daryl watch over it. When she steps on a branch it distracts them and make them move toward her, so they have to hide. Daryl can hear the Whisperers talking to each other as they look for them.

Eugene apologizes for not having prepared remarks for first contact. He asks where she is located and asks for details about her community, but she’s not comfortable giving him specifics. She asks about his background, where he’s from. She’s from Pennsylvania. He’s been to her hometown before for a train conference, and it turns out they know the same ice cream shop there.

The herd continues to move. One of them tries to sneak up on Daryl, who grabs it and uses the guts to smear all over himself so that he can blend in. The Whisperers walk right past him with their walkers in tow. “Over here,” one says.

Siddiq cares for Cheryl, whose condition is deteriorating. She says she hasn’t had that much attention from younger men in a long time. She can see his concern and she tells him that most people in this world don’t get to die in a nice bed.

Dante comes in with some supplies, and Siddiq apologizes for jumping on him. Dante says they’ll figure out how to tackle this, and Siddiq appreciates his help. Dante says he’s kind of amazing and that Siddiq should appreciate him.

Rosita is burning up and Coco is crying. He takes the baby and walks around the room with her. When he sits down he kisses her forehead and stares at her mouth. Suddenly he’s wracked by a flashback from the barn, and Alpha’s voice telling him to open his eyes. When he opens them, he’s standing on top of the windmill with Coco.
