Why Negan and Carol Would Work Together

Carol knows that Negan would be a tremendous ally with nothing to lose. Worst case scenario in being released is that he goes off on his own and is never seen again. If he can help take down the Whisperers, though, it would help to get him back into Alexandria’s good graces.

We know that Negan respected Daryl a great deal, and that’s why he tried to convert him back at the Sanctuary. He respected Carl, he respected Rick and he respects Michonne. He respects strong people. There’s every reason to believe that Negan would fall in line with Carol’s plan because she is a strong woman who knows what she wants and she’s not afraid to embrace all of her available resources to achieve her goal. (In fact, it’s her willingness to do whatever it takes that would appeal the most)

More from Undead Walking

Carol may have gone to Negan with a proposal: She would release him knowing that Alexandria is calling for blood after Margo’s death, and he would help her take down Alpha. Part of that plan could involve Negan infiltrating the Whisperers’ hierarchy as someone with inside information about Alexandria, which would provide Carol with information about their plans along with giving them a healthy amount of misinformation about Alexandria.

Given the number of skilled trackers in the group, it seems unlikely that no one has found Negan at this point, and this could be explained by the notion that Carol hasn’t been looking for him. She knows he’s working on infiltrating Alpha’s inner circle, which gives her time to focus on the horde. She’s using him to put some cracks inside Alpha’s world by upsetting the balance between Alpha and Beta, and while they’re distracted she will take out the horde.

It might be outlandish, but it’s entirely possible. There has to be a reason that we have never seen Carol and Negan interact, and it’s my belief that this was done intentionally to set up their partnership in the fight against the Whisperers.

As of this writing we have not learned the name of the person who released Negan, and Carol’s actions of late suggest that she’s willing to do whatever it takes to take down Alpha. In the world of The Walking Dead, there are no coincidences and that’s what makes it all the more likely that she was the one who let the former Savior go free in order to use him in her fight against the Whisperers.
