Was taking a Whisperer hostage on The Walking Dead the right move?
By Adam Carlson
A member of the Whisperers has been abducted and will be taken hostage by the survivors on The Walking Dead. Was that the right move for the war?
The war between the Whisperers and the survivors on The Walking Dead has been messy, bloody, and heart-breaking. The latest move has Carol abducting one of Alpha’s followers to interrogate them and get info on her group.
Without letting anyone else know, this plan was hatched solely by Carol and it will be interesting to see how Michonne, Father Gabriel, and the others will feel about taking this route instead of a more diplomatic or calculated approach.
But was taking a hostage from the Whisperers camp a smart move? Or is it something the group will live to regret? We asked our panel of The Walking Dead experts that very question!

Personally, I do not think that is a good idea. However, my main issue with doing it is that one person decided it was a great idea for everyone. If everyone decided that was the plan, I still wouldn’t think it was a great idea mainly because of the type of people Whisperers are. If a Whisperer has the job of watching over the guardians then I assume that individual isn’t someone brand new that might crack. I think that is a very important job that a higher Whisperer is gifted with. So even if everyone wanted this to happen, I wouldn’t want a top Whisperer kidnapped. That is a terrible idea. I’m going to also assume that not everyone is going to think this plan was a great one and there might be some blowback just from that.

I think Carol’s move to kidnap a Whisperer was a big mistake considering the very thin ice that the communities are already walking on with the Whisperers. With such a psychopath in charge of them, the Whisperers could simply just send the full force of the horde against the communities and there would be very little chance that they survive. I get that Carol wants vengeance for Henry’s death – and I really hope she gets it – but her reckless actions are putting everyone else at risk. Her heart is in the right place, but she needs to consider her moves more carefully if she wants to beat the Whisperers for good.

I think that is going to cause some major problems for our group. I think it was a wrong move. If you are that involved in the Whisperers I don’t think you would cave and spill information, you are probably of the mind to die for the cause. And, torturing isn’t something our group is about. I do not like it at all.

There is a mountain of things that could go wrong considering everything that happened with the abduction and everything, but Carol may have inadvertently hit the jackpot with her move here. The Whisperers think that Lydia is dead, since that is the information Alpha fed them. If the captive is taken to Alexandria and meets Lydia, there’s a good chance any information they want will be available. But let’s just hope that the abduction wasn’t seen and Alpha’s group doesn’t search for them.
What do you think will come from one of the Whisperers being abducted on The Walking Dead? And how will bringing one of Alpha’s people into the community be met by the residents? Let us know your opinion in the comments section!
