Where will Lydia go now that she’s on her own on The Walking Dead?
By Adam Carlson
After being used by both the Whisperers and Alexandria, Lydia made the decision to go out on her own on The Walking Dead. But where will she go now?
It’s easy to feel bad for Lydia on The Walking Dead. Seeing how she was brought up by her mother and forced to live among the dead was tough, but then having her lose Henry and be pushed around by others in Alexandria made her life even more difficult.
The icing on the cake for her was when Carol, someone she confided in, used and manipulated her to prove that Alpha has been lying to her people about sacrificing Lydia for the greater good of the Whisperers. That caused Lydia to strike Carol with her staff and go into the woods on her own.
But what is next for Lydia? All alone in the woods with nobody to trust, where will she go and what will she do? That is the question posed to our group of The Walking Dead experts!

She might possibly scope out an old camp she was at with the Whisperers previously, maybe even attempt to spy on them. As terrible and messed us as they are they have been her family for such a long time that curiosity might get to her. Overall though I’m not even sure she knows what she is going to do, to be honest. I think she is just a lost girl.

I think Lydia needs some time alone to think about whether or not she can find a place in the communities or if she’s better off on her own. After years of abuse at the hands of her mother, for the briefest moment, it seemed like Henry helped bring her into a loving community that she could truly live in. Instead, she has had Henry taken from her, been assaulted by members of the community that was supposed to accept her, and is now being used as a pawn by Carol, one of the few people she thought was actually looking out for her. While I think deep down Lydia knows that returning to the Whisperers is not what she should do, she may explore that option simply out of desperation from being mistreated by basically everyone she knows.

I believe Lydia will spend a little time by herself to assess her next course of action. She needs time to reflect on where she wants to be and who she wants to surround herself with. I can absolutely see Lydia being alone into the second half of the season before someone like Negan or Daryl finds her. I believe she will ultimately end up back at Alexandria, but this alone time is definitely needed for her right now after all she has been through.

I don’t think even Lydia knows where she is headed. She has been used and abused for years and had to endure horrible things while in the presence of Alpha and the Whisperers. She thought she found a place that was different from what she has known. But, she has had to endure losing Henry, a beating by people she thought she could trust and now she feels betrayed by Carol. It wasn’t a smart move to just head off like she did but I think she felt she had no other option.

Like the rest of the panelists, Lydia likely didn’t have a location or goal in mind when leaving. She likely saw too much of Alpha in the actions of Carol and needed a little time to evaluate things and think them through. Loving on your own in a world full of the undead with people you don’t trust all around you will be difficult, and odds are that Lydia returns to Alexandria once she gets has an opportunity to think things through,
