The Walking Dead shocked many people with the pairing of Father Gabriel and Rosita Espinosa, let’s chat about why they are a great couple!

Rosita, baby Coco, Father Gabriel, Siddiq, and Eugene have been quite a hot topic for a while. Fans of The Walking Dead love to make “ships” with who they think are perfect for each other. Rosita and Eugene were a popular pairing in the comics, so that has spilled over into the fan base.

Siddiq and Rosita share a baby in the tv show, and seemingly the comics as well if Rosita had survived long enough to have her child she may have confirmed that. Season 10 episode 7 of The Walking Dead titled “Open Your Eyes” showed us a cute pairing with Rosita and Siddiq that left many fans wanting more.

First, I want to talk just a bit about Rosita as a person and why I think Siddiq and Eugene are not good matches for her. When she is introduced she is with Abraham, She is a very strong character and admits she wasn’t necessarily upset Abraham moved on, it was more that he did it before she did.

Rosita very clearly cared for Abraham but she didn’t feel this was a thing she would have forever. When Abraham was killed by Negan and Rosita was taunted in the infamous lineup, this took a huge toll on her. It weighed on her heavily which caused a cascade as negative things to happened.

Much like what Siddiq experienced, she can understand where he was coming from as she likely relived those moments time and time and again. This is something that still stays with her. On the outside, she appears to be very strong, and in some ways she most certainly is. However, I think over the years her self-confidence has taken many hits and it’s something that always wavers.

This is why I think Siddiq is a great friend for Rosita but was not a good partner. Unfortunately, he has passed so this can’t be looked into further now. Siddiq was dealing with so much he needed a person that is already confident and sturdy in their self so that he can get more attention.

With her and him both needing a strong support system with more focus on them, I think if either was spiraling or in a bad state of mind continuously it would be detrimental to both. They were very cute together, but cute can only go so far. I wouldn’t call their relationship as friends shallow by any means but I don’t think they could put all of their hearts into it without it being damaging.

Eugene is someone who I don’t believe is emotionally mature enough for Rosita. If Rosita is spiraling she has the potential like in season 7 of The Walking Dead to go off and do questionable things. As an example, she wanted to shoot Negan, and instead of sitting her down and checking her plan and saying it wasn’t a good idea, Eugene caves and makes her a bullet.

I have no doubt he would be there for Rosita, but I think he would be there to a fault. He would agree with everything she does and just worship the ground she walks on, which isn’t good for his well-being. I feel he would lose himself if they were together. Not only this, but their basis for a relationship is very rocky.

It wouldn’t come from a place of pure love. It would feel forced on Rosita’s side since Eugene told her the only reason they were friends in the first place was in hopes of a romantic relationship. Even though she never once lead him on. No amount of time with a person as a friend grants you a relationship automatically.

It would also feel very awkward since Eugene enjoyed watching her and Abraham in the act and even tried to watch her breastfeed her child. I would personally feel very weird to even be friends with someone who did that to me. Eugene needs someone romantically much like Rosita needs, strong-willed and confident that will also get him in the right frame of mind when needed.

Whenever I think about Rosita and Father Gabriel it makes me smile and reminisce. Back in season 7 on The Walking Dead, after Abraham died, Rosita was at her very worst emotionally. She felt it should have been her and that she would take Negan out even if it killed her. She went to the church and told Father Gabriel about her plans.

He was the first person to show genuine interest in how she was as a person. What was going on inside her head and he was the only person to realize at the time that she thought it should have been her to be killed by Negan. He forced her to hold her head up and look in his eyes while he told her of her value. At that moment he had the strength for her that she did not.

While he said nobody should have died and that Negan would be defeated with everyone together, I couldn’t help but feel a genuine connection all that time ago while she cried and told him her feelings. Tara and Eugene were horrified during that time just trying to make it through and even her relationship with Abraham gave the feeling of fun but not permanent.

Present-day we, unfortunately, have not got to see a lot of their connection to make fans more excited with them. However, in small moments, we have seen how strong they are. Father Gabriel didn’t leave her throughout her entire pregnancy and supported her, someone else might have left.

Even in moments some may find harsh, he tells her of her value. When she wanted to fight he said no. He didn’t cave, but he also wasn’t controlling, he told her that to baby Coco she is everything and she needs to stay safe. He knows she is an amazing mother and the best person for her child. Anyone can fight, but not anyone can be Coco’s mother.

Even though I mentioned Eugene, Siddiq, (Tara and Abraham as well) and said I don’t think they are good matches for Rosita it wasn’t to disrespect them in any way. Even Father Gabriel could have downfalls like mentioned he can come off harsh and that could lead to a breakup in the heat of the moment.

I just find him to mesh better with Rosita and I hope we get to see more tender moments with them this season! More moments where he stands up for Rosita and more moments where she can confide in him or even him to her so we can get a better idea of their connection.
